Every number here is off the drawing rather than off a finished tool. Name the radius and the grade you want and the drawing comes back with your numbers on it.

It goes on the wheel dry, centres off its own base, and comes off again without a lump of clay to clean up. The wall thickens at the seats where the weight sits.

Why it is shaped like that

Coiling a chuck out of clay costs ten minutes and dries out while you use it. Three seats cover most of what comes off a domestic wheel, and the rim is chamfered so a glazed lip is not resting on an edge.

Living with it

  • Line the seat with a strip of foam or a damp cloth for anything already glazed.
  • It is hollow and light, which is what makes it quick to lift on and off the wheel between pots.

Made to order

Send the code and the grade, or a photograph of the curve you want. A dimensioned drawing comes back the same working day, and nothing is printed until you say yes to it.
